A thought came to my mind while I was cleaning the Beach photos in this story.
"What a beautiful place Tainan was."

Last year I contacted Bill Reese, a former Security Police K-9 handler at Tainan.
Bill served at Tainan, 1971-1973.
During our conversation we discussed many things about the base and what went on behind the scenes.
I'm glad I was able to contract Bill last year. Bill passed away, this March.
Today, some of the photographs Bill graciously shared with me.
These photos, taken at Tainan Beach, during what looks to be a unit party.
Anyone remember this get-together at the beach?

Before Tainan became a US Air Force facility, it was part of MAAG Taiwan.
Who stood watch at this MAAG Beach guard post?
Notice the circular bulb, which was probably red colored, hanging from the upper left of roof.
Walking along the streets outside of the base, in town, you would always see red colored balls on many street corners, and a police station in close proximity.

Before the games begin...
The guys have all the goodies necessary for a fun time, beer, sodas and good food.
Notice the burgers, but, are there ribs or chicken in the cooler?
Notice the 3 bottles of BBQ sauce on the table.

Relax..... Pretty much have the whole place to yourself.
How much would you pay to hang-out at the beach on vacation.

This looks like the same bunker as photo just above.
Time to head home, a mother taking a youngster into the water as a young boy races down the beach with his hands full...

Yessiree--That beach was alot of fun-hard to believe it was 50 years ago for me but I remeber it like it was yesturday--Thanks for the pics
The 9th photo down, where the tall skinny guy is directing the others moving that wooden picnic bench is David Friedberg (Tainan Security Police). I found him indirectly, living south of me in St. Petersburg, Fl.,a few years ago. He is Chief Of Security for the Hillsborough Schools System. The dude to David's left in the photo, wearing a white T-Shirt, might be Bob Hoffman (Tainan Sec. Police, K-9). These block of Tainan Security Police, were there '71-'73ish. Our Bill Reese, Tainan Security Police K-9, from Newhall, Iowa, had been ill for some time, but battled it out, and was upbeat. He passed in his sleep 3/17/2018. He is very much missed by his Tainan fellow veterans.
The photo of the Tainan Vets playing Volley Ball. I think I have identified a few others. This must've have been a beach party, put together by the Tainan K-9 group (friends and family ?). The Tall lanky veteran facing the photographer on the right, wearing lt blue s/s shirt, blue jeans and Keds sneakers, looked like the SP Cmdr., Burch H. McDonald (he passed in 2005 at age 64). The Veteran on the far left dressed in dark blue shirt and blue slacks,at the net and the picnic table photo, might be the late Joe R. Kirkpatrick. The Veteran with the red T-shirt in this photo and the picnic table photo might be Cooke. And the Black Veteran, also on the other side of the net might either be the late Bruneau or Vitalo. I put out a shoutout to Robert 'Bob' Hoffman (Wa.) and David Friedberg (Fl.)to identify these folks. Thanks.
The first photo reminds me of the MAAG officers family housing compound I would visit in 1957 and that really looked like a California suburb.
Dave Friedberg was easy to pick out. Cook in red shirt. Bill Florence dark blue shirt.
Green shirt might be Nelson Edwards but don't put any money on that. Yes, those are the bunkers. Sat inside one and read entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. Still have pictures of Jenny Tseng on that bunker to the left and in front of the beach house.
I think it called "Shisu喜樹"，south part of Tainan.
I lives here for 40 years.
