Walking around Taipei Air Station and Chung Shan North Road

This week I decided to take time out of my, nothing to do schedule and get out of the apartment to enjoy the unseasonably warm temperatures.  Yesterday it was over 80 degrees here in Taipei, and today in the high 70s..

Two days ago, I rode the Metro out to Kung Kuan, the old Taipei Air Station area, and walked the area recording a video presentation.

The video opens just across the street from the area that once housed the "Fox Studio" which is the store just to the right, notice the blue sign with yellow lettering, top right, and the letters,    C O L O R on the pillar.

After seeing this photo, I believe it was closer to the old circle on Roosevelt Road than I talked about it in the video.  Notice how close the mountain is in the left side of this photo.  This mountain contained antenna which can still be seen today, although I noticed while walking the are has a number of telephone antenna now.

Also, as we walk by the old original stone wall that ran from the circle on Roosevelt Road down to the entrance gate and exit gate of Taipei Air Station, I promised to show a photo of the old wall, since I discovered when filming that most of the remaining old wall has been taken down in the last few days.

BUT

We have aerial photographs of the area, taken from different times, which show the old area and the new buildings.

This is a very clear photo of Taipei Air Station in 1973.

You'll want to hold down your Ctrl key and then tap on the + sign and this photo will open-up and you'll be able to see the street that came off the circle and went past the entrance and exit gates.  The street is still in the same place today, as you'll see in the video.

This photo (above) includes the "new buildings," such as the 327th Air Division office building, the new NCO Club and other buildings.

Aerial View circa 1969.

This photo shows the "old" Taipei Air Station before any construction on the new Keelung Highway.

Here's a view looking from the opposite direction, guessing 1972.

Look closely, toward the top of the photo outside the red line.  All of the base is still intact.  The new Keelung Highway is just beginning to be cut through.

OK.

Let's get on with the film of the area, taken on Tuesday, 22 December 2015.

The video is in 1080 HD format, so be sure it's showing in 1080 HD on your monitor.

Yesterday, I caught the Metro north toward the old HSA Compound and filmed again.

I walk from the corner of Chung Shan North Road and Min Quan Road north to the area on the sidewalk outside the old HSA East Compound.

Here is that video, taken yesterday, 23 December 2015.

I had gone down to figure out just where the old Military Club called, Club Oasis was actually located.

This video explains where it was (to the best of my knowledge)

Perhaps someone may remember the club, it was in existence in 1956, and appears in the MAAG Taiwan Telephone directory dated 1956.

Here's the video:

This video is also in 1080 HD. So much cleaner and sharper.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Kent, Great reports. You brought back so many memories. The airline office on the corner of Min Quan and Chung Shan was Northwest Orient. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
