Chungshan North Road - 1965 and Now
Google Earth 2009 - Approximate area of the photo below, fewer automobiles, larger trees, but there's no question, it's the old HSA East Compound Gate area.
Chaos at the Main Gate of the East Compound, 1967. Photos courtesy of Ted Baxter, Army MAAG, TDC Comm Center.
Looking north just past the Hostel which was on right side of this photograph.
Lots of traffic passed the compounds back in "the day."
Approximately same location as photograph below. Google Street View, 2009
Many forms of transportation made their way up and down Chungshan North Road.
Great photos, Kent! The second from the top shows the hostel (Rainbow Guest House) building. There was another building behind that one, which is where I lived.
The traffic looked quite different when I arrived in 1973 -- lots more cars, motorcycles and scooters and fewer bicycles.
That's the MAAG officers club behind the wall on the left of photos 3 and 6. It's interesting that so few pictures of that facility seem to have survived.

I stayed in the Rainbow Guest House in 1988. It was run by the ROCAF. I think it's gone now.
I was working at CCK as a tech advisor to ROCAF at the time. Ended up staying there seven years.
