A Copper Coin?

Off subject, but I couldn't let this one pass.

My friend Chris believes the photo was taken in Shanghai, sometime prior to 1945.

The sign was issued by the government of Public Settlement in Shanghai.

I'm assuming a "Copper" is a copper coin.

In Taiwan, I always carry a small plastic package of Kleenex tissue in my shoulder bag.

Most places in Taiwan have paper available in the rest room, but, "better safe than sorry" when you discover the roll is empty....

Coming across your brilliant blog sir. Thank you for your service.
The Mandarin sign did read "one copper coin".
